S Jaishankar Speaks on Concerns over Dual Citizenship

S Jaishankar: Addressing the complexities surrounding dual citizenship for Indians living abroad, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar emphasized the myriad challenges associated with this prospect.

Speaking at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event in Chennai, Jaishankar acknowledged the presence of security and economic challenges in facilitating dual citizenship for the Indian diaspora.

During the ‘TAKEPRIDE 2023’ – The 20th Young Indians National Summit, Jaishankar responded to a participant’s query about the ease of doing business for Indian entrepreneurs and the potential implementation of dual citizenship for them. He noted the ongoing debate on this matter and highlighted the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) as a step to address the demand for dual citizenship.

Additionally, Jaishankar commented on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent announcement regarding the reservation of 24 seats PoK and the potential for elections in the region. Describing the move as a “reaffirmation of the sovereignty of India,” the minister conveyed the government’s stance on the matter.

Reflecting on India’s strengths, Jaishankar emphasized the three pillars shaping the nation: talent, technology, and tradition. He underscored the significance of these elements in moulding the country’s identity and contributing to its progress.
