The primary objective behind this proposal is multifaceted, aiming to invigorate the national economy, amplify tourist inflow, and attract increased foreign investment.

Indonesia, known for its captivating landscapes and cultural richness, is looking to leverage this potential visa policy shift to rekindle its tourism sector, which was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to the global health crisis, Indonesia boasted over 16M foreign arrivals. Although the numbers have rebounded to some extent, with 9.5M foreign visitors recorded till october this year, the country aspires to regain and surpass its pre-pandemic tourism figures.

This move aligns with regional trends, as both Thailand and Malaysia have recently embraced visa waivers for visitors from China and India, recognizing the positive impact on tourism and economic dynamics.

Indonesia’s potential visa-free entry for citizens of diverse nations, including India, underscores a commitment to fostering international connections and promoting its allure as a tourist destination.
