Satish Pai: A Global Career Forged at Schlumberger
Before his transformational role at Hindalco, Satish Pai built a formidable international career at Schlumberger, the world’s leading oilfield services company. Recruited directly from campus in 1985 as a Field Engineer, he spent 28 years with the organisation, steadily rising through roles of increasing responsibility across continents.
His journey culminated in Paris, where he served as Executive Vice President – Worldwide Operations, overseeing Schlumberger’s global operations. In this role, Satish Pai carried responsibility for health, safety and environment (HSE), people leadership, operational excellence, R&D integration, and global P&L performance—managing complexity at a scale few executives ever experience.
This period shaped his leadership philosophy: disciplined execution, deep respect for people, uncompromising safety standards, and data-driven decision-making.
Joining Hindalco: Laying the Foundation for Transformation
In August 2013, Satish Pai joined Hindalco Industries as CEO of the Aluminium Business. His immediate focus was the successful ramp-up of three mega greenfield projects, expanding alumina capacity to 2.7 million tonnes and aluminium capacity to 1.3 million tonnes—one of the most ambitious expansions in the sector.
Recognising his strategic clarity and execution strength, Hindalco elevated him to Deputy Managing Director in February 2014, entrusting him with leadership of the copper business as well. This role further sharpened his ability to manage integrated, capital-intensive operations across value chains.
