Vistara Tabs: In the midst of heightened tensions between India and the Maldives, Vistara, a prominent full-service carrier, announced its intention to closely monitor the evolving demand for flights connecting the two nations.

Currently, Vistara operates daily flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Male. Chief Commercial Officer Deepak Rajawat assured that, as of now, no cancellations have been made, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to monitoring the flight demand amidst the ongoing situation.

The diplomatic rift stems from India expressing strong concerns to the Maldives government regarding derogatory remarks made on social media by several Maldivian ministers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The disparaging comments have sparked criticism within India, with notable figures urging citizens to explore domestic tourist destinations rather than traveling to the Maldives.

Social media posts have even surfaced, claiming that some Indian travellers are cancelling their planned trips to the Maldives due to the escalating tensions. In response to the controversy, the Maldives government has taken action by suspending three deputy ministers who were responsible for the derogatory social media posts against Prime Minister Modi.

The three deputy ministers had criticized Modi for promoting Lakshadweep as a tourist destination, implying that it was an attempt to position the Union Territory as an alternative tourist spot to the Maldives.

This recent development adds an intriguing layer to the evolving dynamics between India and the Maldives, impacting not only diplomatic relations but also the tourism industry between the two nations.
