Early Years and Education of Venkatesh Shankar

Venky’s journey began with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1984. His insatiable thirst for knowledge led him to the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, where he completed his MBA in 1986.

The pinnacle of his academic achievements was reached when he earned his Ph.D. in Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, in 1995.

Embarking on an academic career, Venkatesh Shankar started at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. During his tenure, he served as the co-director of the Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams (QUEST) Program and later as an associate professor.

His passion for knowledge transcended borders, leading him to be a Visiting Scholar at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from 2001 to 2002.

In 2004, Venkatesh Shankar joined the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University, where he currently holds the prestigious position of Ford Chair in Marketing & E-Commerce. His impact at Mays Business School is further highlighted by his role as Marketing PhD Program Director from 2006 to 2012.
