NRI Booked for Obscene Post of Politician

Amidst the fervent election campaign in Kerala, the police have filed a case against an NRI, Minhaj Kottente Meethal of Kozhikode in Kerala, for an offensive social media post directed at LDF candidate K.K. Shailaja in Vadakara.

The case was registered after allegations surfaced of morphed images of Shailaja accompanied by derogatory comments. Acting on a complaint filed by Shailaja herself, the Mattannur police have initiated legal action against the accused, invoking charges of incitement of violence.

In another incident, T.H. Aslam, an activist of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), was also booked for making objectionable remarks against Shailaja on social media platforms. Aslam, a member of the New Mahe grama panchayat, faced charges under IPC Section 153 and Kerala Police Act 120.

The IUML, a significant ally in the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), has been embroiled in controversy over these incidents. Shailaja, a prominent LDF candidate, is contesting against Congress’ Shafi Parambil and BJP’s Praful Krishna.

The registration of these cases highlights the increasingly contentious nature of political discourse in Kerala’s electoral landscape. As campaigning intensifies, authorities are vigilant against instances of defamation and incitement, emphasizing the importance of responsible communication during elections.
