A 26-year-old Indian student, Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi, has been missing in Chicago since May 2, according to a statement by the Chicago Police. Chintakindi was last seen in the 4300 block of N. Sheridan Rd.

The consulate posted on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, We are deeply concerned to learn that Indian student Rupesh Chandra Chintakindi has been uncontactable since May 2. We are working closely with the police and the Indian community here to locate him.

This incident is part of a worrying trend affecting the safety and security of Indian students in the United States. Just last month, a 25-year-old Indian student, Mohammad Abdul Arfath, who had been missing since March, was found dead in Cleveland. Arfath, from Nacharam, Hyderabad, had arrived in the US in May last year to pursue a Master’s degree in IT from Cleveland University.

The Indian community and authorities are increasingly concerned about these incidents, highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures for international students.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago continues to work tirelessly, urging anyone with information on Chintakindi’s whereabouts to come forward as efforts to locate him intensify.
