Canada Breaks Barriers: New Measures Promote Family Reunification and Empowerment

In an unprecedented move, the Canadian government has announced measures that will foster the reunification of families and their integration into Canadian society.

Minister Fraser, a staunch advocate for family unity, announced these progressive changes today, signalling a renewed commitment to inclusivity and support for newcomers. Immigrants will benefit from faster processing times, open work permits, and enhanced transparency in decision-making.

One of the most significant changes is the expedited processing time for spousal applicants. Previously, the wait could be agonizingly long, but now, in most cases, couples can expect their temporary resident visas to be processed within a mere 30 days. This acceleration of the application process will alleviate the anxiety and uncertainty that families often experience when separated.

Moreover, sponsored spouses and dependent children who hold temporary status will now be eligible for open work permits. This means that families will no longer face the hardship of relying solely on a single income while adjusting to their new lives in Canada. These individuals are now able to support themselves by being granted work permits by the Canadian government.

Recognizing the ongoing challenges faced by spousal and open work permit holders, the government has also extended the validity of open work permits for an additional 18 months. Effective June 7, this measure ensures that families will have more time to navigate the complexities of settling into a new country, finding employment, and contributing to Canadian society.
