Indian Immigrants :- In the past half-decade, US authorities have reportedly come across more than 200K illegal Indian immigrants, marking a concerning trend highlighted in details presented by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in the Parliament.
Indian Immigrants in US :-
According to information gleaned from American homeland security data, the highest number of cases, a staggering around 97K was recorded in the year 2022-23.
Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, disclosed that the encounters with illegal Indian immigrants unfolded as follows: 8K cases in 2018-19, 1.2K in 2019-20, and a significant spike to 30.6K in 2020-21. The cumulative figure of such encounters reached a concerning 200K individuals.
These statistics were extracted from the immigration records published on the US Customs and Border Protection website, as Muraleedharan elucidated. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of Indian nationals abroad, he underscored the prioritization of legal migration.
In the pursuit of fostering legal migration, Muraleedharan highlighted several initiatives undertaken by the MEA. Notably, the recruitment of Indian nationals for overseas employment is meticulously regulated under the Emigration Act.
Addressing the issue of illegal migration and human trafficking, Muraleedharan outlined a systematic approach wherein complaints in this regard are referred to state police for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
The government’s stance remains steadfast in combatting illegal migration while ensuring the protection and lawful opportunities for Indian citizens seeking overseas employment.
