PM Modi to begin 3-nation visit to Cyprus, Canada, Croatia on Sunday

PM Modi: In a significant move aimed at reshaping India’s foreign policy narrative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation tour starting Sunday, with a high-stakes stop in Canada, where he is scheduled to attend the prestigious G7 Summit. The Ministry of External Affairs announced the itinerary on Saturday, marking this foreign outreach as the Prime Minister’s first overseas visit since India launched Operation Sindoor—a landmark counterterrorism initiative against Pakistan.

In the second leg of his journey, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Kananaskis, Canada, from June 16 to 17 at the invitation of the new Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney. The G7 Summit will provide a platform for the Indian leader to voice New Delhi’s positions on urgent global challenges, including energy security, digital innovation, climate resilience, and equitable economic growth.

Equally important, the sidelines of the summit are expected to host a crucial bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Carney. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this dialogue will be an “important opportunity” to revive and recalibrate relations between the two democracies, based on mutual respect, shared interests, and sensitivity to each other’s core concerns.

“India and Canada are vibrant democracies, bound by deep-rooted people-to-people connections and democratic values,” said Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs. “The forthcoming meeting of the two leaders at Kananaskis can pave the way for a meaningful reset.”

Before arriving in Canada, PM Modi will visit Cyprus and Croatia, where he is expected to hold high-level bilateral talks to deepen trade, digital partnership, and cultural cooperation with the Mediterranean nations. These visits reinforce India’s continued efforts to build bridges with Europe and beyond, even as geopolitical realignments gain pace across the globe.
