In a significant diplomatic outreach, the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday, July 20, 2025, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a landmark two-nation tour to the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23 to 26, 2025. The PM Modi UK and Maldives Visit 2025 underscores India’s growing global stature and commitment to strategic partnerships across continents.
Forging Stronger Ties: PM Modi’s Fourth Visit to the UK
The first leg of the journey will see Prime Minister Modi in the United Kingdom from July 23 to 24, on the invitation of British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. This marks Modi’s fourth visit to the UK as Prime Minister—one steeped in the evolution of a multifaceted relationship between the two democracies.
During his stay, PM Modi is expected to engage in comprehensive bilateral talks with Prime Minister Starmer, addressing key areas such as trade, defence, climate action, innovation, education, health, and people-to-people connectivity. Both leaders will also deliberate on global and regional challenges, reaffirming their shared vision of peace, prosperity, and sustainable growth.
A key highlight of the visit will be PM Modi’s scheduled meeting with King Charles III, signifying the continuation of cordial relations at the highest levels of government and royalty. The discussions will also focus on the ongoing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), launched in 2021, which has been a cornerstone in bolstering cooperation between India and the UK across critical sectors.
PM Modi: Bridging Oceans – Maldives Visit and the 60th Independence Day
Following the UK leg, PM Modi will travel to the Maldives from July 25 to 26, accepting an invitation from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to serve as the Guest of Honour at the 60th anniversary celebrations of Maldivian Independence on July 26.
This visit is especially symbolic as it marks the first state visit by a world leader under President Muizzu’s administration, and Modi’s third visit to the archipelagic nation. At the heart of the visit lies a shared commitment to the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, which was jointly announced during President Muizzu’s visit to New Delhi in October 2024.
The partnership is pivotal in promoting maritime stability in the Indian Ocean, aligning closely with India’s Neighbourhood First policy and Vision MAHASAGAR, which emphasize cooperative growth, strategic balance, and secure regional waters.
The leaders will review bilateral projects, connectivity initiatives, climate resilience strategies, and security collaborations that have defined recent India-Maldives relations. PM Modi’s presence at the Independence Day celebrations highlights India’s unwavering support for its maritime neighbor’s sovereignty, prosperity, and self-reliance.
