Parag Agrawal was born on May 21, 1984, in Ajmer, Rajasthan, to a family deeply entrenched in academia and science. His father’s role in the Indian Department of Atomic Energy and his mother’s position as a retired Economics professor undoubtedly laid the groundwork for Agrawal’s intellectual pursuits.

Agrawal’s academic prowess shone early on when he secured a gold medal in the International Physics Olympiad during his final year of higher secondary education at Atomic Energy Junior College, Mumbai. This achievement foreshadowed his future brilliance in the field of technology.

In 2005, Parag Agrawal graduated with a Bachelor of Technology degree in computer science and engineering from IIT Bombay, marking the beginning of his journey into the world of computer science. His thirst for knowledge led him to Stanford University, where he pursued a PhD under the guidance of Jennifer Widom, culminating in a groundbreaking thesis on data management and integration.


Agrawal’s foray into the tech industry began with research internships at Microsoft Research and Yahoo! Research, where he honed his skills as a software engineer. However, it was his tenure at Twitter that would define his professional trajectory.

Joining Twitter in 2011 as a software engineer, Parag Agrawal quickly rose through the ranks, eventually assuming the role of Chief Technology Officer in 2017. His leadership was marked by innovative initiatives such as Project Bluesky, aimed at decentralizing social networking—a testament to his forward-thinking approach to technology.

Despite his achievements, Agrawal’s tenure as CEO of Twitter was short-lived, ending abruptly with Elon Musk’s acquisition of the company. However, true to his resilient spirit, Agrawal wasted no time in embarking on his next venture—a pioneering AI startup poised to revolutionize the industry.
