Early Life and Education of Manish Suresh Shah

Born on November 3, 1972, in the bustling metropolis of New York City, Manish Suresh Shah’s journey began amidst the whirlwind of urban life. His academic prowess became evident early on, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Stanford University in 1994.

Undeterred by challenges, he pursued his passion for law, earning a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the prestigious University of Chicago Law School in 1998.

Professional Trajectory

Manish embarked on his professional odyssey, honing his legal acumen as an associate at the esteemed law firm of Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe in San Francisco, California. However, it was his tenure as a law clerk to Judge James Zagel of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois that set the stage for his illustrious career.

In 2001, Manish Suresh Shah transitioned into public service as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, marking the beginning of a remarkable chapter.

His dedication and expertise saw him rise through the ranks, serving in various pivotal roles within the legal sphere. From Deputy Chief of the General Crimes Section to Chief of Criminal Appeals, his tenure was characterized by a steadfast commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law.

Nomination and Confirmation

In 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Manish Suresh Shah for the prestigious position of US District Court judge for the Northern District of Illinois.

This nomination underscored not only his legal prowess but also his integrity and unwavering dedication to serving the American people. Amid bipartisan support and commendation from senators Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk, Manish’s nomination sailed through the rigorous confirmation process.

On April 30, 2014, Manish Suresh Shah’s nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate with a resounding vote of 95–0, cementing his position as a beacon of justice within the federal judiciary. His commission on May 1, 2014, marked the commencement of a new chapter in his illustrious career, where he continues to uphold the principles of fairness, impartiality, and integrity.
