Laura Loomer Under Fire for Calling Indian Immigrants ‘Third-World Invaders’

Far-right activist Laura Loomer has landed in the center of a heated debate following her inflammatory comments about Indian immigrants in the United States. A loyal supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, Loomer targeted South Asian migrants, labeling them as “third-world invaders from India” in the midst of discussions surrounding the H-1B visa program. Her remarks have sparked widespread criticism, including rebukes from prominent Trump supporters like biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

A Heated Debate Over the H-1B Visa

The H-1B visa program, pivotal to the U.S. immigration system, allows American companies to employ foreign workers in specialized fields, primarily technology. In 2024 alone, over 85,000 H-1B visas were approved from a pool of 400,000 applications. Companies such as Google, Amazon, and Tesla have heavily relied on this program to recruit top talent.

The controversy surrounding Loomer began when she criticized the recent appointment of Indian-born internet entrepreneur Sriram Krishnan as senior policy adviser for Artificial Intelligence at the White House. Calling his selection “deeply disturbing,” Loomer reignited debates over immigration policy and workforce diversity.

In her now widely condemned comments, Laura Loomer stated, “Our country was built by white Europeans, actually. Not third-world invaders from India.” Laura Loomer further added, “It’s not racist against Indians to want the original MAGA policies I voted for. I voted for a reduction in H-1B visas. Not an extension.”

The Backlash and Rebuttals

Loomer’s remarks drew sharp criticism across the political spectrum. Vivek Ramaswamy, a staunch Trump supporter and a biotech entrepreneur, responded by highlighting the cultural factors that drive immigrant success in the U.S. “The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born and first-generation engineers isn’t due to an American IQ deficit,” Ramaswamy explained on X (formerly Twitter). “Our culture has celebrated mediocrity over excellence for far too long. Tough questions demand tough answers.”

Elon Musk also entered the fray, dismissing Loomer as a “troll.” Responding to her claims about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk wrote, “Loomer is trolling for attention. Ignore.” Loomer retorted, accusing Musk of undermining Trump and pandering to tech elites.

Entrepreneur David Sacks weighed in to clarify the role of Krishnan, emphasizing that he advocates for removing country caps on green cards to ensure equitable access for skilled professionals, not an unrestricted immigration policy. Musk echoed this sentiment, replying to Sacks with, “Make sense.”

A History of Controversy

This is not the first time Laura Loomer has stirred controversy. A self-described “proud Islamophobe,” Laura Loomer has faced backlash from fellow Republicans, including Vice President-elect JD Vance and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Loomer’s incendiary rhetoric often isolates her even within her ideological circles.
