India Automobile Exports Soar 22% in Q1 FY26
India Automobile Exports Hit Record High with 22% Growth in April-June Quarter
India Automobile Exports: In a striking display of strength on the global automotive stage, India automobile exports soared by 22% year-on-year during the April-June quarter of FY2025-26. The growth, fueled by record-high passenger vehicle shipments and a rebound in two-wheeler and commercial vehicle segments, underscores India’s rising stature as a manufacturing and export powerhouse.
According to the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), total vehicle exports rose to 14,57,461 units in Q1, up from 11,92,566 units in the corresponding period last year. This growth trajectory has not only outpaced expectations but also reaffirmed India’s position as a global export hub in the mobility sector.
India Automobile Exports: Passenger Vehicles Hit Record High
Leading the charge, passenger vehicle (PV) exports touched an all-time high of 2,04,330 units, reflecting a 13% rise from 1,80,483 units in Q1 of the previous fiscal year. SIAM attributed the surge to sustained global demand, especially from Middle Eastern and Latin American markets, alongside recoveries in Sri Lanka and Nepal, and expanding trade under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with nations like Australia.
“Strong overseas demand and trade relationships have helped Indian manufacturers scale new heights. The rebound in neighboring regions and higher uptake from Japan have also contributed positively,” a SIAM spokesperson stated.
Maruti Suzuki Leads the Export Race
Maruti Suzuki continued its dominance in the export landscape, commanding nearly half the pie with 96,181 passenger vehicles shipped during the quarter—a 37% jump from 69,962 units last year. This performance pushed its export share to a historic high of 47% in Q1 FY26.
“Maruti Suzuki has been leading India’s PV exports for four consecutive years. Our increasing share and double-digit growth reaffirm our global appeal,” said Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer – Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki.
He further noted that while the rest of the industry experienced a slight 2% dip, Maruti Suzuki’s exports rose sharply, underscoring the brand’s growing acceptance and trust worldwide. “When global customers embrace our cars, it strengthens our position not just abroad, but also within India,” Bharti emphasized.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor India exported 48,140 units, marking a steady 13% growth over last year’s 42,600 units, cementing its place as a strong contender in India’s outbound auto market.
India Automobile Exports: Two-Wheelers and CVs See Steady Uptick
India’s two-wheeler exports also registered robust momentum, climbing to 11,36,942 units, up 23% from 9,23,148 units last year. Brands capitalized on rising demand from Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, particularly in the affordable mobility segment.
Similarly, commercial vehicle (CV) exports grew by 23%, reaching 19,427 units, while three-wheeler exports surged by 34% to 95,796 units, signaling a revival in demand across urban transport ecosystems globally.
