Popular Chandra Arya Speaks Out After Liberal Party Blocks His Leadership Candidacy

Canada’s Liberal Party Rejects Chandra Arya’s Nomination Amid Political Controversy

In a stunning political development, Canada’s Liberal Party has revoked Indian-origin MP Chandra Arya’s leadership bid and nomination for re-election in his Ottawa Nepean constituency. The decision, which has sparked controversy, reportedly stems from alleged ties between Arya and the Indian government, as cited in a report by The Globe and Mail and quoted by PTI.

The move comes amidst ongoing diplomatic tensions between Canada and India, raising questions about political interference and foreign influence in Canadian politics. While the Liberal Party has remained tight-lipped on the exact reasons for Arya’s exclusion, reports suggest concerns were raised over his connections with Indian officials.

Unreported India Visit and Allegations of Foreign Ties

According to The Globe and Mail, Chandra Arya visited India in August 2023 and met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he allegedly did not inform the Canadian government about the trip, a move that reportedly raised red flags among intelligence officials.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) is said to have briefed the government on Chandra Arya’s “alleged close ties to the Indian government, including its High Commission in Ottawa.” While CSIS did not explicitly recommend barring Arya, Liberal Party officials took the decision independently after reviewing a general CSIS briefing on foreign interference.

Additionally, sources claim that discrepancies were found in a confidential questionnaire Arya submitted, further fueling concerns within the party.

Arya Rejects Allegations, Calls Decision Politically Motivated

In response to the ban, Chandra Arya strongly denied any links to foreign interference, asserting that his removal was unjust and politically driven. “As a Member of Parliament, I have engaged with numerous diplomats and heads of government, both in Canada and internationally. Not once have I sought—nor been required to seek—permission from the government to do so,” Arya stated.

Chandra Arya further suggested that his vocal stance against Khalistani extremism and advocacy for Hindu Canadians were the real reasons behind his removal. “The sole point of contention with the Liberal Party has been my outspoken advocacy on issues important to Hindu Canadians and my firm stance against Khalistani extremism,” Arya said, adding that former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other cabinet members never raised concerns about his diplomatic engagements in the past.
