In the dynamic realm of music, where notes become emotions and lyrics tell stories, Zoya stands as a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. Born in New Delhi, India, in April 1993, Zoya’s musical journey spans continents, festivals, and collaborations that have left an indelible mark on the industry.
Early Years and Education
Zoya’s journey began at a young age when, at six months old, she relocated with her family to Newport Beach, California. Her formative years were spent attending the Orange County School of the Arts, immersing herself in the Visual Arts and Commercial Voice Conservatory. As a teenager, she started crafting her own songs, performing them in local bars and coffeehouses along the California coast.
Upon graduating from the Orange County School of the Arts in 2011, Zoya set her sights on Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, marking the commencement of her formal music education.
Emerging as an Artist
In 2013, Zoya took a significant step in her career by releasing the “Letters To Toska” EP, showcasing her songwriting prowess. The journey continued with her booking gigs across the East Coast and California, gracing renowned music clubs like Rockwood Music Hall and Whisky A Go-Go.
Her visual EP, “Lasya,” released in 2014 via YouTube, garnered attention, leading to an opening slot for singer-songwriter Kawehi. This paved the way for Zoya to join Kawehi’s Evolution Tour in the same year, propelling her into the spotlight.
Musical Odyssey in India
The summer of 2015 marked a milestone with the release of her full-length album, “The Girl Who Used To Live in My Room.” Following this, Zoya collaborated with eight producers to create the electronic remix album “Zoya: Plugged In” in October 2015. Her music echoed across India as she toured and performed at festivals, venues, and even conducted songwriting classes at contemporary music schools.
From 2015 to 2019, Zoya became a fixture at India’s major festivals and venues, sharing stages with renowned artists like Natty, Lucy Rose, Madame Gandhi, Youngr, Submotion Orchestra, Bloc Party, Clean Bandit, Anderson .Paak, and Martin Garrix. Not only did she mesmerize audiences, but she also became a fashion icon, modeling for H&M x Erdem and representing Vans.
Return to Los Angeles and “Bad Girls Dream”
After a four-year stint touring India, Zoya returned to Los Angeles, where she found a new chapter in her career. Teaming up with Chicago-based label Propelr Music and producers Chuck Inglish and Mark Nilan Jr., she embarked on the “Bad Girls Dream” series. The debut single featuring rapper Jack Harlow set the stage for an exciting new phase in her musical journey.
