Rajaratnam, played a pivotal role in Singapore’s history, serving as its first Foreign Minister and later as Deputy Prime Minister.
Vijayaratnam received his education at Saint Paul’s Institution, where he demonstrated an early aptitude for leadership and public service. He later pursued medicine at the University of Agra, India, earning his MBBS degree. This academic achievement not only marked the beginning of his career as a doctor but also laid the groundwork for his dual roles as a healer and a leader.

In 1981, Vijayaratnam opened his own clinic in Seremban after eight years of government service. His clinic became more than a place for medical care—it was a hub for community engagement. His contributions to medicine were recognized internationally. Vijayaratnam Seevaratnam was a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health in London and an Honorary Fellow of the Indian College of General Practitioners. In 2007, he was inducted as a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland.

Vijayaratnam’s political career began in 1981 when he joined the Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (PGRM). His journey from an ordinary member to Vice-President of the party in 2005 showcased his ability to lead with wisdom and inclusivity. He served on the Seremban Municipal Council and was appointed a Malaysian senator in 2002, a role he held until his untimely demise.
