Vallabh Sambamurthy’s journey began in India, where his fascination with automobiles paved the way for a Bachelor of Engineering with honors in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.

However, a pivotal moment occurred when Peter Drucker’s insights on management captivated him, leading to a shift towards business studies. He earned his Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, specializing in marketing and strategy.

The quest for knowledge didn’t end there. Sambamurthy pursued a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in information systems from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, solidifying his foundation for a remarkable academic and professional journey.

Vallabh Sambamurthy’s career trajectory took him to esteemed institutions like the University of Maryland, College Park, and Florida State University before becoming the Eli Broad Professor and Chair of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.

During his tenure, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of Information Systems Research, a testament to his standing in the academic community.

His contributions were duly recognized with prestigious awards, including the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli and the AIS Fellow Award by the Association for Information Systems.

“I have a lot of enthusiasm about the Wisconsin School of Business,” says Sambamurthy. “I am coming into an institution with a strong legacy, excellent faculty and staff, reputed colleges on campus, great students, and dedicated and successful alumni. It’s the ideal launching pad for me to provide new energy and an invigorated sense of purpose and vision. I can’t wait to see where we go from here.”
