UP Cabinet: The state cabinet of Uttar Pradesh has given the green light to the government’s ambitious Matra Bhumi Yojna, a scheme aimed at linking Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) with their hometowns or villages in UP by enabling them to financially support development projects.
UP Cabinet Approves..
Despite generating significant interest, particularly during the Global Investors Summit of February 2023, there was minimal progress until now. A government spokesperson highlighted that the scheme required cabinet approval due to its financial implications, and with this nod, the government is now poised to roll it out earnestly.
Under the Matra Bhumi Yojna, individuals or private organizations from UP residing in other states or abroad can contribute to developmental projects or infrastructure enhancement within any urban area of the state.
The district magistrate will process administrative approval within 30 days of donation, with progress reports submitted to the government. Investors will cover 60% of the project cost, with the remaining 40% provided by the state government.
Donors will receive recognition through plaques or stone slabs displayed at the project site and will be invited as chief guests to government events. Geo-tagging will prevent duplication of work, with donated funds deposited into an escrow account.
Urban Development Minister AK Sharma emphasized that many UP natives are employed across India and overseas, expressing a desire to contribute to their hometowns’ development.
The scheme aims to provide a structured platform for such contributions. With cabinet approval secured, the government plans extensive publicity for the scheme.
