Shri Prakash Gossai was born in Handsome Tree, Mahaica Creek, Guyana, into a devout Hindu family. His parents, Pandit Bissondial and Shrimati Rewti Gossai, nurtured his spiritual growth from a young age. His early life hinted at a profound connection with Sanatan Dharma, a passion that would define his future.

Early Life and Spiritual Awakening of Shri Prakash Gossai

Shri Prakash Gossai’s journey began in the serene environs of Handsome Tree, Mahaica Creek, where his spiritual inclinations were evident from a young age.

His parents, Pandit Bissondial and Shrimati Rewti Gossai, were instrumental in fostering his deep interest in Hinduism. The spiritual atmosphere of his home, coupled with his inherent curiosity, set the stage for a lifetime dedicated to spiritual exploration.

Involvement with the Mahatma Gandhi Organization

During his teenage years, Shri Prakash Gossai joined the Mahatma Gandhi Organization in Georgetown, Guyana. This period was crucial in shaping his religious, musical, and linguistic pursuits.

He immersed himself in the study of Hindi songs and religious texts, seeking to understand the deeper aspects of Sanatan Dharma. His association with prominent spiritual leaders, including Doctor Budhendra Doobay and Professor Anantanand Rambachan, provided him with invaluable guidance and mentorship.

Journey to the United States

In 1983, Shri Prakash Gossai immigrated to Queens, New York, where he embarked on a career teaching Marine Biology with the New York Board of Education.

This opportunity allowed him to engage with the local Hindu youth, who were grappling with cultural assimilation and spiritual disconnection. Realizing the importance of contextualizing religious practices for younger generations, he took it upon himself to explain the significance of rituals and symbols in Hinduism.

Founding of Bhuvaneshwar Mandir

In 1984, Shri Prakash Gossai founded the Bhuvaneshwar Mandir in Brooklyn, New York. This temple became a hub for spiritual and academic activities, attracting youths and promoting Sanatan Dharma. His vision was to create a space where young people could reconnect with their heritage, participate in spiritual activities, and receive guidance on living a dharmic life.

Dedication to Ramcharitamanas and Full-Time Spirituality

By 1992, Shri Prakash Gossai’s devotion to the Ramcharitamanas had grown so profound that he decided to leave his science career to fully commit to his spiritual path.

The following year, he traveled to India to study under his Guru, Brahmrishi Vishvatma Bawraji Maharaj of Pinjore, Haryana. This period of intense spiritual discipline and study further deepened his understanding and love for Goswami Tulsidas’ Ramcharitamanas.

Global Spiritual Influence

Shri Prakash Gossai’s dedication to Sanatan Dharma led him to travel extensively, sharing his knowledge and insights with audiences around the world.

His lectures and discourses have been delivered in the United States, Canada, England, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica, Venezuela, and the British Virgin Islands, as well as in his homeland of Guyana. His teachings emphasize the unity of all religions and the practical methods for achieving divine consciousness.

Recognition and Awards

Shri Prakash Gossai’s contributions have been recognized globally. In 2002, he received the Medal of Service award from the Government of Guyana for his positive contributions to his native land.

In his acceptance speech, he expressed deep gratitude and highlighted the importance of his early spiritual and educational experiences. The same year, he was honored by the Devi Mandir in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, for his dedication to the Canadian Hindu community, receiving multiple awards for his support and fundraising efforts.
