Early Life of Shashaa Kiran Tirupati

Shashaa Kiran Tirupati’s journey began amidst the picturesque landscapes of Srinagar, India. However, the upheavals of insurgency led her family on a nomadic path, traversing through Chandigarh, Allahabad, Delhi, until they found solace in the vibrant city of Vancouver, Canada. Despite the geographical shifts, music remained her constant companion, nurturing her spirit and igniting her passion.


The pursuit of academic excellence paralleled Tirupati’s musical endeavors. Graduating with distinction from L.A. Matheson Secondary School, she embarked on a scholarly voyage, earning accolades and scholarships that adorned her path. Her commitment to Hindustani classical music under illustrious gurus like Kamala Bose and Girija Devi laid the foundation for her future musical odyssey.


Fuelled by determination, Tirupati ventured into Bollywood, forsaking the corridors of medical school for the limelight of Mumbai’s music industry. Her multifaceted talent, ranging from vocals to instruments like kazoo and western classical guitar, set her apart as a force to be reckoned with.

The turning point in her career came with the recognition from maestro A.R. Rahman during Coke Studio Season 3. From thereon, her musical journey soared to unprecedented heights, gracing the silver screen with soul-stirring renditions in languages spanning Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and more.

Collaborations with Rahman on projects like “OK Kanmani” and “Dil Bechara” further cemented her status as a versatile artist with an enchanting voice.

Independent Ventures

Beyond the realm of playback singing, Tirupati embarked on a journey of self-expression, releasing her debut single “In My Skin” from her Independent EP (I’m Sorry, Heart) in January 2022. This foray into independent music showcases her prowess as a songwriter and her unwavering commitment to artistic integrity.


Tirupati’s musical prowess has garnered widespread acclaim, earning her prestigious accolades including the National Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer.

Her rendition of “Vaan Varuvaan” from the movie “Kaatru Veliyidai” stands as a testament to her vocal brilliance. From the Star Screen Award to the Zee Cine Award, her trophy cabinet gleams with the recognition of her peers and fans alike.
