Ajay Banga who is the current President of World Bank, has been recognized by a renowned philanthropic organization for his inclusion in their annual “Great Immigrants” list. This prestigious honour acknowledges individuals who have made significant contributions to the enrichment and strengthening of America and its democratic values.
Banga, the first-ever Indian American to assume leadership of the World Bank, stands as a remarkable figure in this year’s list curated by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
Bringing forth a wealth of experience spanning more than three decades in influential roles, the 63-year-old Banga is poised to introduce transformative policies at the World Bank, addressing critical issues such as poverty alleviation and climate change.
This endeavour aims to create opportunities and empower individuals worldwide, as highlighted in a statement released by Carnegie on Wednesday. Banga’s professional journey began in India, where he spent 13 years at Nestle India followed by two years at PepsiCo. In 1996, he embarked on a new chapter in his career at Citigroup, eventually ascending to the position of CEO for the Asia-Pacific region.
He served for an impressive tenure of 12 years before being appointed as executive chairman. During his leadership, Mastercard made notable strides, including the establishment of the Centre for Inclusive Growth.
