The intellectual journey of P R Kumar began in India, where his talent for analytical thinking emerged early. He earned his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Electronics) from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1973, an institution known for producing leaders in science and technology. Driven by curiosity and ambition, P R Kumar moved to the United States to pursue advanced studies at Washington University in St. Louis, where he obtained his M.S. (1975) and D.Sc. From 1977 to 1984, P R Kumar served on the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. In 2011, P R Kumar joined Texas A&M University, where he currently serves as a University Distinguished Professor, Regents Professor, and holder of the O’Donnell Foundation Chair I. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, reflecting his interdisciplinary reach.
