Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi Clarifies Passport Renewal Options for Expats

Indian Embassy Simplifies Passport Renewal Services for Expats in UAE

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has introduced vital clarifications regarding Indian Passport Renewal Services in UAE, aimed at helping Indian expats navigate the renewal process with ease. By outlining the distinctions among the available options—Normal Passport Renewal Service, Tatkal Passport Renewal Service, and Premium Lounge Service—the Embassy encourages applicants to “plan wisely for a smooth process.”

Taking to social media, the Embassy recently posted a detailed explanation to educate applicants about the timelines, requirements, and features of each service. Here’s everything you need to know to ensure a hassle-free passport renewal experience.

Types of Passport Renewal Services

1. Normal Passport Renewal Service

This is the standard service for renewing Indian passports. The processing time for Normal Passport Renewal Service is approximately three to four working days. Applicants must book an appointment through the BLS International website to submit their applications. Police clearance from India is mandatory and must be completed before the passport is issued.

2. Tatkal Passport Renewal Service

Designed for urgent cases, the Tatkal Passport Renewal Service guarantees expedited processing. If an application is submitted before 12 noon, the passport can be issued on the same day or the next working day. No prior appointment is required for Tatkal service, allowing applicants to walk into any regular BLS centre.

3. Premium Lounge Service

For those seeking additional comfort and personalised assistance, the Premium Lounge Service is an optional, value-added offering by BLS International. It provides amenities such as a dedicated representative, a comfortable waiting area, and refreshments. However, applicants should note that this service does not fast-track processing times; applications are processed under the normal timeline.

Key Clarifications by the Indian Embassy

  1. Processing Time and Fast-Tracking:
    • The Premium Lounge Service does not expedite passport processing. Only the Tatkal service guarantees quicker renewal for an additional fee.
    • Applications submitted through the Premium Lounge follow the same timeline as the Normal Passport Renewal Service.
  2. Booking and Walk-In Policies:
    • Premium Lounge appointments must be pre-booked online, especially in Abu Dhabi. Walk-ins are not accepted for Premium Lounge services.
    • Walk-ins are allowed only for Tatkal Passport Renewal Service, making it an accessible option for urgent needs.
  3. Police Clearance Requirements:
    • For Normal Passport Renewal Service, police clearance from India is required before the passport issuance.
    • For Tatkal service, police clearance is conducted post-issuance, streamlining the process for emergencies.

Why Choose the Premium Lounge Service?

While not a fast-track option, the Premium Lounge Service offers significant convenience for applicants who value comfort and ease. According to BLS International, the lounge provides personalised service, assistance with documentation, and facilities like tea/coffee. However, an additional non-refundable charge of AED 236.25 (including VAT) is applicable for this service, excluding government fees and other charges.

How to Apply for Passport Renewal in the UAE

Indian expats can apply for passport renewal through BLS International, which operates multiple centres, including Premium Lounges in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Select Your Service: Determine whether you need the Normal, Tatkal, or Premium Lounge service based on your urgency and requirements.
  2. Book an Appointment: For Normal and Premium Lounge services, schedule an appointment via the BLS International website. Tatkal applicants can walk in without prior booking.
