Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal is a name synonymous with ambition, innovation, and perseverance. Born on June 5, 1960, his journey from humble beginnings in Punjab, India, to becoming one of Singapore’s most influential serial entrepreneurs and respected political figures is nothing short of inspirational. Born in Punjab, India, Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal migrated to Singapore at just 10 months old. Growing up in Singapore, he attended Kaki Bukit Primary School before progressing to Broadrick Secondary School and Temasek Junior College. Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal understood the transformative power of education early on. He pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), graduating with honors in 1985. During his time at NTU, he displayed exceptional leadership by founding the EEE Club and serving as the first chairman of the NTU Students’ Union Council.

His vision for community building extended beyond his student years as he also played a key role in establishing the NTI Alumni Association, which later became NTU Alumni Club.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal sought to expand his knowledge and horizons. He pursued an MBA from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, graduating in 1991. His quest for knowledge and excellence earned him an honorary doctorate from Amity University in 2018, solidifying his belief in lifelong learning. Corporate Career: Climbing the Ladder of Success

After completing his education, Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal began his corporate journey with Texas Instruments as an engineer in 1985. For 13 years, he showcased unwavering dedication and exceptional problem-solving abilities, eventually rising to the position of Director of Operations for the Singapore plant from 1996 to 1998. His rapid ascent in the corporate world was driven by his innovative mindset and leadership qualities.

However, his entrepreneurial spirit was not confined to the corporate ladder. He yearned to create something groundbreaking—a venture that would not only define his career but also inspire others. This burning desire led him to step away from a secure corporate position and dive into the world of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurial Ventures: From Dreamer to Visionary Leader

Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal is celebrated as a visionary serial entrepreneur who transformed challenges into opportunities. In 1998, he founded United Test and Assembly Center (UTAC), a semiconductor firm that became a game-changer in the industry.

Against all odds, he raised a record-breaking US$138 million during the seed stage, primarily from Taiwanese investors, defying skeptics who doubted his vision of building a homegrown multinational firm. By 2001, UTAC was valued at US$2 billion and later listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange in 2004.

Simultaneously, Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal ventured into other business arenas. He co-founded Tri-Star, a trading and services firm with his brothers, investing much of his and his family’s savings. Today, Tri-Star operates in 38 countries across Africa, distributing consumer electronics. He also established Infiniti Solutions, a semiconductor engineering firm that expanded globally, with operations in Silicon Valley, Austin, Texas, and a factory in the Philippines.

His entrepreneurial journey did not stop there. As the CEO of Solstar International, he leads a Singapore-based consumer electronics company selling products in 25 countries across Africa and Asia. In 2009, he co-founded Urah Transdermal, a life-science research company that developed patented technologies for transdermal delivery of active molecules, showcasing his innovative spirit.

Political Career: A Leader of Vision and Integrity

In addition to his entrepreneurial achievements, Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal played a pivotal role in Singapore’s political landscape. He entered politics as a grassroots leader in 1984 and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kebun Baru ward under the Ang Mo Kio GRC from 1996 to 2015, under the leadership of Singapore’s Prime Minister.

During his tenure, he held significant roles such as Deputy Government Whip from 2002 to 2011 and Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for the Ministries of Finance and Trade and Industry. His political journey was marked by his advocacy for small and medium businesses, his efforts to shape policies that empowered startups, and his dedication to community welfare.

In 2015, Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal stepped down from politics, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, impactful leadership, and unwavering commitment to public service.
