ICICI Bank has introduced a new feature enabling non-resident Indian (NRI) customers to conduct Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in India using their international mobile numbers. Announced on Monday, this service aims to simplify daily payments for NRIs.
Traditionally, NRIs needed an Indian mobile number linked to their Non-Resident External (NRE) or Non-Resident Ordinary (NRO) accounts to access UPI services, which often posed a challenge for seamless transactions.

Now, ICICI Bank allows NRIs to utilize their international mobile numbers registered with NRE/NRO accounts for UPI payments.
This service is accessible through the bank’s mobile app, iMobile Pay, offering a convenient way for NRIs to handle utility bills, merchant payments, e-commerce transactions, and other financial activities without requiring an Indian mobile number.
Users can perform transactions by scanning any Indian QR code, sending money to a UPI ID, or transferring funds to an Indian bank account.
The launch of this facility represents a significant advancement in enhancing the financial transaction ease for NRIs, ensuring a more integrated digital payment experience.
By enabling the use of international mobile numbers for UPI, ICICI Bank aims to promote broader adoption of digital payments among NRIs and streamline their financial operations across borders.
This initiative underscores ICICI Bank’s commitment to leveraging technology to provide innovative banking solutions that cater to the evolving needs of its global customer base.
