Digital Schengen :- The European Commission has released revised regulations on the digitalization of Schengen visas and the mobility of third-country nationals within the border-free zone.

As reported these updated regulations delineate the shift of Schengen visas into a digital format, featuring a barcode cryptographically signed by the issuing Member State’s Country Signing Certificate Authority.
The digital visas will incorporate the visa holder’s facial image, ensuring both printability and accessibility for all travellers, regardless of their origin or destination.
Throughout the transitional phase, Member States wishing to participate in this digital platform are required to notify the Commission and eu-LISA. The digital visa application platform dedicated for the task will function under the aligning with other official EU websites.
The platform is designed to automatically ascertain the Member State responsible for processing applications, temporarily storing them as necessary for relevant tasks. Applicants will benefit from electronic notifications, ensuring prompt updates and information regarding their application or visa status.
This initiative marks a significant advancement in the modernization of visa procedures within the Schengen zone, streamlining processes, enhancing accessibility, and incorporating state-of-the-art security measures for the digital era. The Commission’s proactive approach underscores its commitment to efficient and secure cross-border mobility within the Schengen area.
