Canada Halts: Canada’s emergency visa program aiding Ukrainians seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict will not see an extension, as reported by The Globe & Mail, with Immigration Minister Mark Miller confirming the decision.
The current deadline requires prospective applicants to reach Canada by month-end. Minister Miller emphasized that there is no immediate plan to extend the program but stressed Canada’s commitment to remaining adaptable in addressing migration challenges stemming from the Ukrainian crisis.

He underscored the importance of operational flexibility to effectively respond to evolving developments in the region. Canada had initiated the Canadian-Ukrainian Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) in March 2022, facilitating the arrival of nearly 250K Ukrainians to date.
This program provided urgent multi-annual work and residence permits, along with financial aid and temporary accommodation for those fleeing the conflict.
Although new applications for CUAET are no longer being accepted, visa holders obtained through the program must arrive in Canada by the end of March for entry.
The decision not to extend the emergency visa program comes amid ongoing efforts to support Ukrainian refugees.
Despite the program’s conclusion, Canada remains committed to aiding those affected by the war, with Minister Miller emphasizing the nation’s readiness to adapt its response as needed.
