Canada Advances: The Canadian government has declared an accelerated implementation of a fresh regulation impacting foreign students. On January 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) verified a notable adjustment in the requirements for post-graduation work permits.
Under this alteration, graduates of college programs delivered through public-private curriculum licensing arrangements will no longer qualify for these permits.
Canada Advances….
Originally scheduled for implementation on September 1, 2024, the enforcement date has been moved up to May 15, 2024. Consequently, international students enrolling in such programs on or after May 15, 2024, will not be eligible for post-graduation work permits upon completing their studies.
However, this change doesn’t completely impede graduates from obtaining alternative work permits. For instance, they can still apply for work permits supported by employer-approved labour market impact assessments, particularly in occupations facing shortages in Canada.
The IRCC has the list of designated learning institutions which shows the eligibility for post-graduation work permits, it can be found on their website.
This expedited enforcement aims to streamline regulations surrounding international student work permits, potentially impacting the choices and plans of future graduates seeking employment opportunities in Canada.
Graduates affected by this change are advised to stay informed and explore alternative avenues for securing work permits post-graduation.
