Bramarambika – The Goddess of Bees

Place significance
Jyotirlingas are mainly worshipped for lord shiva but in every jyotirlinga there will be a goddess who accompanies lord shiva. One of the jyotirlinga is Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh. This jyotirlinga has lord Shiva as a deity and also Goddess Bramarambika. This place is also considered to be one of the shaktipeetha among 18 shakthipeethas. It is believed that the right anklet of sati devi had fallen in this place.
The story
There was a demon named Arunasura who has been very atrocious and cruel all his way. He once went to Himalayas and penanced. He pleased Lord Brahma and wished a boon of not being dead by any war. Lord Brahma granted him a boon that he cannot be killed by any person or animal having two or four legs.
After demon Arunasura received boon, he got confident that he would have no end by any war. He defeated many kings harassed many people, every one used to salute him, he started going against many deities, harassing many men and women.
Goddess Bramarambika seeing his atrocities couldn’t bear and released bees from her body. Bees killed demon Arunasura since bees had 8 legs. The end of the demon made the goddess more powerful and the place more sacred.
In Srisailam, Goddess Bramarambika is found with eight hands representing bees. People worship her to have a happy leading life. It is believed that this goddess gives a happy family life.
Till date people remember her story and it is also found that the wall behind the idol of goddess has a sound of buzzing bees. Devotees could hear the sound of buzzing bees by placing their ear on the wall.
Even in yoga there is pranayama named after this goddess as Bramari which represents a type of breathing with a nice sound of buzzing bees.
