Growing up in the Boston area, Arjun was always captivated by how machines perceive the world. He joined his high school’s robotics team and quickly became fascinated with computer vision. But when he and his teammate Sean Mabli tried building vision models, they hit a massive roadblock—lack of quality image data. Training computer vision systems required thousands of labeled images, an impossible task for one small student team.

Instead of giving up, Arjun and Sean created Dataset Colab, a collaborative platform where robotics teams could submit and share annotated images of game objects. In just six weeks, over 500 users joined. That sudden growth revealed something crucial: this wasn’t just a robotics problem. It was a widespread challenge across industries. People everywhere needed an easier way to build computer vision systems.

That realization fueled the birth of Synodic AI. At only 17, Arjun co-founded the company with a bold mission—to make computer vision tools fast, affordable, and available to everyone.

Arjun Goray: Building a Startup While Finishing High School

Running a tech startup while still in high school wasn’t easy. Arjun would attend classes during the day and spend his nights building Synodic AI. His family, who had moved to the U.S. from India, became his support system. They adjusted their schedules, introduced him to mentors, and gave him the space to chase his dream.

In May 2024, Arjun and Sean launched the first version of Synodic AI. The early days were filled with bugs, crashes, and long nights. But the breakthrough came in June when they landed their first paying customer. That single milestone validated their idea—and proved that even a high schooler could build something the world needed.

Real-World Impact Across Industries

Today, Synodic AI is being used in diverse fields. In factories, it identifies defects in products. In healthcare, it analyzes scans for early signs of illness. On farms, it monitors crop health to help farmers act faster. By removing the barriers of cost and complexity, Synodic AI allows even small organizations to tap into the power of AI.

Arjun dreams big. “I want to see Synodic AI used to save lives and improve livelihoods,” he says. His vision is rooted in empathy and accessibility—making advanced AI tools available to everyone, regardless of their background or budget.

Shaped by Mentorship and Community

Arjun credits much of his journey to the FIRST Robotics community, which gave him hands-on experience and exposure to mentors who encouraged him to think beyond the classroom. The challenges he faced in robotics competitions sharpened his problem-solving skills and gave him the confidence to build real-world solutions.

He also worked as a research assistant at the Varanasi Research Group at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, further strengthening his technical foundation and research mindset.

Looking Ahead from UC Berkeley

Now 18, Arjun is pursuing computer science at the University of California, Berkeley while continuing to lead Synodic AI. He balances college life with entrepreneurship, carrying forward the same mission that sparked his journey: to make building with AI accessible to everyone.

His message to young innovators is clear and powerful:
“If a high school kid can launch a tech startup, imagine what you can do.”
