Young Lions: The Foundation Years

Anumanthan’s professional football career began in 2012 with the Young Lions, a developmental team in Singapore’s football scene. Initially trained at the National Football Academy, he was called up to the Young Lions squad due to the team’s shortage of players. Hougang United: A Breakthrough Season

In January 2016, Anumanthan Mohan Kumar signed with Hougang United, a move that proved to be a defining chapter in his career. His dynamic performances earned him the Young Player of the Year award, making him the first Singaporean to win the honor since Hariss Harun in 2010. That season, he played a vital role in Hougang United’s near-qualification for their first-ever AFC Cup, an achievement that showcased his potential as a game-changer.

Home United: National Service and Continental Glory

In 2017, Anumanthan signed with Home United due to his National Service commitments. Despite joining mid-season, he quickly made an impact, scoring his first goal against Warriors FC. That year, Home United finished third in both the S.League and Singapore Cup.

On 18 January 2021, Anumanthan Mohan Kumar made history by signing with Kedah Darul Aman, a club in the Malaysia Super League. He scored his first goal for the club on 13 August 2021, heading in a crucial goal against Selangor at the Darul Aman Stadium. His performances helped Kedah secure 2nd place in the 2021 Malaysian Super League, solidifying his reputation as a formidable defensive midfielder.

Lion City Sailors: Captaining to Glory

In 2022, Anumanthan Mohan Kumar signed a three-year contract with Lion City Sailors, one of Singapore’s top football clubs. That year, he helped his team clinch the Singapore Community Shield and finished as runners-up in the Singapore Premier League.

A defining moment came on 26 July 2023, when Anumanthan captained the Sailors against English giants Tottenham Hotspur in a prestigious friendly match at the Singapore National Stadium. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the team to Singapore Cup victory in December 2023.

International Career: A National Treasure

Anumanthan’s international career has been just as impressive. He was part of the Singapore U-23 team that won the bronze medal at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games. Later that year, he received his first senior national call-up and made his debut against Oman on 14 August 2013, in a 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifier.

His first start for Singapore came in a friendly match against China on 6 September 2013, further establishing him as a regular in the national squad. In 2022, he was included in both the FAS Tri-Nations Series and the AFF Championship, reaffirming his importance to Singapore’s football ambitions.
