Canada has announced that it will be capable of handling approximately half of the visa applications submitted by Indian nationals by the conclusion of 2023. Among the 38K pending visa applications from Indian applicants, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will only be able to process 20K by December due to limited in-country resources in India.
This temporary limitation is a result of a reduction in personnel stemming from the expulsion of 41 Canadian diplomats from India. The remaining five IRCC staff members in India are now focusing on essential functions within the country.

This includes urgent application processing, visa issuance, risk assessment, and the supervision of key partners like visa application centers, panel physicians, and immigration medical examination clinics. The five remaining IRCC staff members in India are currently giving priority to critical responsibilities within the country.
These tasks encompass urgent application processing, visa issuance, risk evaluation, and the supervision of crucial partners such as visa application centers, panel physicians, and immigration medical examination clinics.
IRCC anticipates that the processing of Indian visa applications will return to its usual pace by early 2024. The department intends for the 22 immigration staff members who were relocated from India to Canada and the Philippines to recommence their roles.
