US Visa Crackdown: Over 55 Million Visas Under Scrutiny
Over 55 Million Under Scrutiny as US Visa Crackdown Intensifies
US Visa Crackdown: In a sweeping move that underscores the Trump administration’s hardline immigration stance, the United States has placed more than 55 million visa holders and applicants under continuous review. The intensified US visa crackdown aims to identify violations that could lead to immediate visa revocations and possible deportations.
According to a written statement from the US State Department, all visa categories, including tourist visas, are now subject to “continuous vetting.” Officials said the review process will examine whether individuals have overstayed their authorized period, engaged in criminal activity, posed a threat to public safety, or participated in terrorist activities.
“We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement and immigration records, as well as any other evidence that surfaces after a visa is issued,” the State Department said.
If violations are detected, the affected visa will be canceled, rendering the individual “ineligible” to enter or remain in the US. For those already inside the country, this could mean deportation to their country of origin.
US Visa Crackdown: Foreign Truck Drivers Face New Visa Freeze
Shortly after news of the US visa crackdown broke, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a temporary halt on work visas for foreign truck drivers. The decision followed a high-profile crash in Florida involving Harjinder Singh, an Indian-origin truck driver, who was named the prime suspect in an accident that killed three people.
In a post on X, Rubio argued that foreign truck drivers are “endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers.”
The State Department echoed the sentiment in an official statement:
“Ensuring that every driver on our roads meets the highest standards is important to protecting the livelihoods of American truckers and maintaining a secure, resilient supply chain.”
This pause, officials said, will allow the government to reassess its screening and vetting protocols for transportation-related visas.
Increased Surveillance on Social Media Activity
The US visa crackdown is not limited to travel and work-related vetting. Under directives from President Donald Trump, immigration officers have been ordered to scrutinize the social media activity of both applicants and current visa holders.
Authorities are searching for content deemed hostile to American interests, including “anti-American” or “anti-Semitic” ideologies. Anyone found promoting such content could be flagged as a security risk and denied entry or deported.
Earlier this month, ICE spokesperson Matthew Tragesser defended the policy, stating:
“America’s benefits should not be given to those who despise the country and promote anti-American ideologies.”
