Sukh Kaur: Rooted in Community, Grounded in Purpose
Dr. Kaur’s approach to governance is deeply rooted in community engagement and data-driven decision-making. With a Doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership from Vanderbilt University, an MBA in Educational Entrepreneurship from Rice University, and a BA in Policy Studies and Political Science, her academic foundation provides an unparalleled lens through which she views the intersections of education, economic empowerment, and urban development.
Her decision to serve was born from a clear recognition: San Antonio is growing, but not everyone is growing with it. As she said at her election watch party at the Roundabout on Blanco Road, “District 1 is going to continue to grow in size, and quite frankly, people are being priced out of the district.” Her work aims to reverse that trend—intentionally and urgently.

Safety, both real and perceived, is essential. Dr. Kaur is expanding street lighting through a dedicated D1 fund and activating underutilised public parks, including historical landmarks like San Pedro Springs, by drawing directly from community input.
3. Affordable Housing with Dignity
A proud member of the San Antonio Housing Trust, Dr. Kaur champions keeping people in their homes, supporting both major and minor rehab projects, rental assistance programs, and public housing maintenance. Her housing efforts are strategic and heartfelt, ensuring residents aren’t pushed out of the communities they built.
4. Support for Small Businesses
Local entrepreneurs are the heartbeat of District 1. From establishing construction grants to help businesses during infrastructure projects, to launching the Shop Small Business Guide and a customer loyalty program, she’s ensuring they not only survive but thrive.

By creating more accessible green spaces and enhancing parks, she’s building not just a better District 1, but a healthier and more connected one. Her support of a fencing pilot program to protect stray animals also reflects her holistic view of community wellness.

More than a policymaker, Sukh Kaur, San Antonio City Council member, is a connector and collaborator. She serves on several influential boards, including Texas Public Radio, engages with legislative partners at all levels, and continues to foster leadership among women and minorities as a proud alumnus of both Leadership San Antonio Class 44 and the Latina Leadership Institute.
Her ability to bridge cultures and communities is remarkable—fluent in Punjabi, conversational in Spanish and Hindi, and certified in yoga. She’s also captain of the La She-Unit Flag Football Team, showing that leadership, like community, is multidimensional.
