German Sikh Woman Marries Man from Pakistan

Sikh Woman: A Sikh woman of Indian descent, Jaspreet Kaur, now known as Zainab, has wed Ali Arsalan from Pakistan’s Punjab province, marking another instance of cross-border marriages between the two neighbouring nations.

The marriage was confirmed by a certificate of acceptance of Islam issued by Jamia Hanafia, Sialkot, as reported by The Express Tribune.

Originally from Ludhiana, Punjab, Kaur embraced Islam at Jamia Hanafia Sialkot before the wedding, adopting her new Islamic name.

The couple reportedly met abroad, where Arsalan invited Kaur to Pakistan. Their relationship culminated in marriage during Kaur’s visit to Pakistan for a religious pilgrimage starting on January 16.

Despite holding an Indian passport, Kaur was granted a single-entry visa until April 15. Officials at Jamia Hanafia revealed that Kaur is one of more than 2K individuals from non-Muslim backgrounds who have embraced Islam at their establishment.

Marriages between Pakistani and Indian nationals often attract attention due to the strained relations between the two countries, particularly regarding the Kashmir issue.

In a similar incident last year, an Indian girl named Anju travelled to Pakistan to marry a Muslim man. Prior to that, a Pakistani woman named Seema went to India to marry a Hindu man.

Such unions underscore personal connections transcending political boundaries, offering glimpses of hope for improved relations between India and Pakistan amidst ongoing tensions.
