Before stepping into the world of diplomacy in 1996, Chakravorty spent over five years working with non-profit organizations on environmental and sustainability projects. This grounding in grassroots work gave him an enduring appreciation for conservation, forests, mangroves, and wildlife—an interest that continues to define his outlook even as he engages in high-level international negotiations.

From his first assignments to his current role as India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty has carried the values of integrity, inclusiveness, and responsibility. Over the years, he has served in diverse global capitals, each enriching his worldview:

  • New Delhi, India – Serving in senior roles, including as Joint Secretary for Europe West and the European Union, where he guided policy at a critical juncture for India’s partnership with Europe.

Personal Life and Values

Behind the seasoned diplomat is a family man deeply rooted in his values. He is married to Taruna, a visiting faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Indore, and they are proud parents of twin daughters. His personal interests include cooking, reading, traveling, and exploring historical sites—pursuits that reveal his zest for life and learning.
