A bright student, he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Madras, graduating with a gold medal. His academic discipline soon led him to qualify as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, giving him a strong foundation in finance.

In the late 1990s, he moved to Doha Bank, initially serving as Head of Technology & Operations. In September 2007, Raghavan Seetharaman was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Doha Bank—a position he held with distinction for 15 years. His forward-looking approach transformed Doha Bank into one of the most respected commercial banks in the Middle East.

As CEO, Seetharaman became synonymous with innovation and sustainability in banking. In 2015, Forbes ranked him 6th in the Top Indian Leaders in the Arab World. His reputation as a thought leader in finance and economics brought him onto international media platforms such as CNN, BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, and Sky News, where he shared insights on global markets, sustainability, and economic governance.
The accolades followed in abundance. He was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award by the Government of India in 2017, the highest honor for overseas Indians. He received the Global Excellence Award in Renewable Energy in 2017, the Green Economy Visionary Award in 2016, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Banker Middle East in 2015. In recognition of his humanitarian contributions, he was honored as the Best CEO of the Century for Peace and Humanity by the World Humanitarian Drive in London.

Throughout his life, Seetharaman has been celebrated for his intellectual contributions and leadership values. He holds doctoral recognitions from European University, Washington College, Sri Sri University, the Arts, Sciences and Technology University in Lebanon, and Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management (SRISIIM), among others.
