Born in January 1955 in Tamil Nadu, India, young Nazeer was driven by a singular dream – to become a successful businessman. Unlike many who aspire but hesitate, he had the courage to act. At the age of 23, he ventured far from home and arrived in Brunei Darussalam, determined to carve out his destiny.
He began modestly as a textile salesman in 1978. For 14 years, Nazeer immersed himself in the trade, learning the intricacies of fabrics, consumer behavior, and the delicate art of winning customer trust. This period of dedication laid the foundation for what would later become a remarkable entrepreneurial journey.
The Bold Leap into Entrepreneurship
In 1992, despite limited capital and countless challenges, Nazeer Ahmed Mohamed Zakariah took a leap of faith and opened his first textile shop in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital. Unlike others who focused on quick gains, Nazeer invested in quality. His fabrics, imported from Italy, Japan, Indonesia, India, and the Middle East, soon gained attention for their exclusivity and affordability.
By 2000, his vision materialized further with the launch of his flagship outlet at Delima Jaya Complex, positioning him as a respected name in Brunei’s textile industry. His strategy was simple yet powerful: stay loyal to customers, provide excellent service, and adapt continuously to evolving buying habits.
Nazeer Ahmed Mohamed Zakariah: A Leader in Business and Community
Nazeer’s influence was not confined to his stores. In 2004, he became President of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Brunei Darussalam, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening business ties within the community. Later, in 2011, he was elected Vice President III of the Brunei-India Friendship Association, further reflecting his commitment to fostering cross-border relationships.
The same year, he launched the Nazeemah Department Store at Medan Tanjong Bunut, marking yet another milestone in his ever-growing empire.

From one small outlet, Nazeer Ahmed Mohamed Zakariah has built a thriving business empire. Today, Nazmi Textile Mall spans 13 outlets – 12 in Brunei and one in Dubai. These include Nazmi Qairah Fashion House, Home of Textile, Economy and Home Décor, and other flagship stores strategically located across Brunei.
Employing nearly 100 staff and generating revenues of 15 million Brunei dollars, his company is more than a commercial success – it is a testament to vision, determination, and disciplined leadership.
