By 1993, Narend Singh had joined the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), turning down an offer from the Democratic Party—a decision that would cement his lifelong allegiance to a party that aligned with his values of social justice, grassroots democracy, and cultural integrity.
Following South Africa’s first multi-racial elections in 1994, Singh was elected to the Senate as an IFP representative. He later transitioned to the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature and became a Member of the Executive Council in 1997, a position he held for nearly a decade. Despite facing personal challenges during this period, including a public scandal in 2006, Singh remained steadfast.
