Mini Timmaraju – Early Life and Education: A Foundation for Advocacy

Born on February 25, 1973, into a Telugu-Indian-American family, Mini’s journey began with a unique blend of cultural richness and the pursuit of education. Growing up in Sugar Land, Texas, she navigated the complexities of identity and cultural heritage.

Her educational path took her from William P. Clements High School to the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in development studies and international area studies in 1995. However, her quest for knowledge didn’t end there; Mini went on to earn her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Houston Law Center in 1999.

A Diverse and Impactful Career

Mini’s professional journey is a testament to her commitment to social change. From her roles at Planned Parenthood to serving as the National Women’s Vote Director for the Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential campaign, she has consistently championed reproductive rights, gender justice, and racial justice.

Mini’s diverse experiences include working with Comcast Corporation/NBCUniversal and the Biden administration’s Office of Personnel Management.

In November 2021, Mini Timmaraju achieved a historic milestone by becoming the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, marking the first time a woman of colour assumed this leadership role.

With over two decades of experience in federal, state, and local campaigns, Mini Timmaraju brings a wealth of knowledge to her role, focusing on restoring fundamental freedoms and advocating for communities disproportionately affected by recent challenges to reproductive rights.

A Vision for Inclusivity and Change

Mini’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in her approach to leadership. Acknowledging the responsibility that comes with being the first woman of colour in her position, she emphasizes the importance of building diverse coalitions.

Under her leadership, NARAL Pro-Choice America established its first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team, reflecting Mini’s dedication to creating a political strategy that mirrors the diversity of the nation.
