This work, done in collaboration with his brother V. Kumar Murty, was pivotal in advancing the understanding of the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture. Together, they provided the key result needed to make Kolyvagin’s work on the rank 0 case of the conjecture unconditional, a feat that continues to inspire ongoing research in the area.
