In the world of modern business, few leaders embody excellence, resilience and global impact the way Manvinder Singh Banga does. Known widely as Vindi Banga, his journey from the mist-covered hills of Simla to the pinnacle of global corporate leadership is a story of discipline, brilliance and an unshakeable commitment to purpose.
Manvinder Singh Banga: A Legacy Rooted in Discipline and Values
Born on October 31, 1954, into a family deeply rooted in service—his father being Lt. Gen. Harbhajan Singh Banga of the Indian Army—Vindi grew up in an environment where discipline, integrity and responsibility were a way of life. These values shaped his worldview long before he stepped into a classroom or office.
With a fierce curiosity and a passion for building things, Banga pursued Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi, graduating in 1975 as the Gold Medalist of his batch. Not one to rest on his achievements, he went on to secure another Gold Medal at IIM Ahmedabad in 1977, cementing his reputation as a scholar of exceptional calibre.
The Making of a Corporate Trailblazer
Fresh out of IIM, Manvinder Singh Banga joined Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) in 1977 as a young management trainee. Few could have imagined that this humble beginning would one day lead him to the highest chair of India’s largest FMCG company.
Over the next three decades, he mastered every facet of the business—from sales, marketing, and product categories to global strategy. His journey within Unilever is the kind that leadership textbooks are made of:
