  • 56K modem technology

  • GSM baseband processors

  • DSP architectures

  • ADSL modem platforms

His contributions during this period helped shape the global telecommunications revolution, earning him recognition as a technologist capable of translating complex theory into scalable products.

VxTel: First Entrepreneurial Breakthrough

Kumar Ganapathy’s transition from engineer to entrepreneur began with the co-founding of VxTel, a company focused on Voice-over-IP (VoIP) carrier technology—well ahead of its time.

VxTel’s innovations addressed the growing demand for scalable, internet-based voice communication. The company’s success culminated in its acquisition by Intel in 2001 for approximately $550 million, marking one of the earliest major VoIP exits in Silicon Valley.

At a time when traditional disk-based systems were bottlenecks for modern computing, Virident pioneered PCIe-based flash storage and introduced the concept of Storage Class Memory (SCM).
