Work and Shashi Kapoor
The fateful meeting between Jennifer Kendal and Shashi Kapoor in Calcutta, 1956, would spark a lifelong partnership, both on and off the stage. As Kendal portrayed Miranda in “The Tempest,” a production by Shakespeareana, Kapoor found himself drawn to her luminous presence. Their shared passion for theater blossomed into romance, culminating in marriage in July 1958.
Theirs was a partnership that extended beyond the realms of personal life. Together, Jennifer Kendal and Shashi Kapoor breathed new life into Prithvi Theatre, a cultural institution in Mumbai. In 1978, they inaugurated the iconic Prithvi Theatre in the Juhu area, providing a platform for budding artists and showcasing the richness of Indian performing arts.
