Jai Menon: A Mind Shaped by Excellence
Born with an exceptional academic spark, Dr. Menon stood out early in his life. Graduating first in his class at IIT Delhi in 1986, he went on to pursue his MS and PhD at Cornell University, mastering both mechanical engineering and computer science — a rare fusion that later became the foundation of his multi-domain brilliance.
His commitment to continuous learning took him further to executive programs at Harvard, Wharton, and MIT Sloan, shaping him into a leader who could blend technical depth with strategic foresight.
The Inventor: Building Deep-Tech Before It Became a Buzzword
Dr. Menon began his career at IBM’s iconic T.J. Watson Research Center in the United States. There, he didn’t just work on advanced technologies — he created them. With over 35 U.S. patents, three European patents, and nearly 100 international research publications, he quickly rose to become an executive director in IBM’s Software Group.
His research leadership extended across labs in the U.S., Israel, China, and Japan, guiding global teams at a time when digital innovation was still taking shape.

Before returning to India, Dr. Menon served as Corporate Officer and EVP at AT&T, managing strategic alliances and spearheading innovations across all business lines. His role as Chief Technology Officer (eCTO) made him a key architect of AT&T’s next-gen products and digital direction.
But the world witnessed the full scale of his leadership after he joined Bharti Airtel in 2002.

During his tenure from 2002 to 2010 as Group CIO, Dr. Menon reshaped India’s telecom and digital landscape. His contributions include:

He introduced IT business models that shifted focus from deliverables to outcomes — an idea far ahead of its time. These models later became Harvard and University of Michigan case studies, inspiring global CIOs.
2. Leading Historic Global IT Outsourcing Deals
He orchestrated large-scale partnerships with IBM, Ericsson, and others, enabling Airtel to standardize and scale its IT infrastructure like never before.
