He cited a recent incident involving an attack on a temple, where Canadian police initiated an investigation into the premises. The intruder, later identified as an individual of unsound mind, prompted concerns and subsequent clarifications.

Addressing the mounting anxiety within the Indo-Canadian community residing in Canada’s British Columbia, Jaiswal acknowledged reports of extortion calls and threat incidents over the past two months. Responding to queries, he confirmed that the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation.

Media reports have indicated that Canadian law enforcement has established a task force to investigate incidents of extortion targeting businesses associated with members of the Indo-Canadian community.

According to the reports, nine such incidents are currently under investigation by the Canadian authorities. Relations between India and Canada have experienced a decline recently, as highlighted by the MEA spokesperson who emphasized that the central concern revolves around the anti-India elements within Canada.
