India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable Seals Ten Landmark Agreements for Strategic Growth
India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable: India and Singapore took a decisive step towards deepening their strategic partnership on Wednesday, as top ministers from both nations met in Delhi for the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR). The meeting, held ahead of a possible visit by Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong next month, concluded with the finalisation of around ten landmark agreements spanning critical sectors.
The pacts, signed after high-level deliberations, will enhance cooperation in connectivity, digitalisation, healthcare and medicine, skills development, and advanced technology. Officials described the talks as a “milestone” in bilateral relations, with both governments aligning their vision for a more connected, digitally empowered, and sustainable future.
India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable: High-Level Engagement
The Indian delegation was led by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
On the Singaporean side, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong led the discussions, joined by National Security and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo, Minister for Manpower Tan See Leng, and Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow.
In his remarks, Jaishankar called the roundtable “productive” and emphasised that the synergy between government and industry would be the “key to unlocking the next phase” of the India-Singapore partnership.
Undersea Cable and Green Energy Vision
One of the most ambitious proposals on the table was the plan to lay an undersea cable capable of carrying solar energy from India to Singapore. This innovative project would not only deliver clean power but also create a high-capacity data connectivity route between the two nations — blending sustainability with technological advancement.
India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable: Strategic Cooperation Across Six Pillars
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions were anchored around the six established pillars of the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable:
-
Advanced Manufacturing
-
Connectivity
-
Digitalisation
-
Healthcare and Medicine
-
Skills Development
-
Sustainability
Both sides reviewed progress on existing initiatives, identified new collaborative ventures, and expressed commitment to delivering tangible benefits for businesses and citizens alike.
A Flourishing Partnership Despite Global Uncertainty
The Singaporean ministerial team also met President Droupadi Murmu, who praised the strength of the India-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. She noted that despite an uncertain global environment, cooperation between the two countries has continued to flourish — a testament to shared trust and vision.
The inaugural ISMR was held in New Delhi in September 2022, followed by the second meeting in Singapore in August 2024. The third edition further reinforced the long-term commitment to building stronger economic, technological, and cultural linkages.
