India resumes e-visa services to Canadian nationals
India-Canada Diplomatic Resolution: Visa Services Resume
India resumes : India has chosen to reignite diplomatic ties with Canada, marked by the resumption of visa services for specific categories. The decision, effective October 26, covers entry visas, business visas, medical visas, and conference visas, providing a fresh start after a recent bout of tension.
This development follows a tumultuous period in September when India, in the midst of a diplomatic spat, suspended its visa services indefinitely. The dispute stemmed from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s bold accusation that “agents of the Indian government” were involved in the June killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
India resumes Visa Updates
Nijjar, a designated terrorist in Bharat, met his demise outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, on June 18. Trudeau, during a parliamentary debate, asserted that Canadian national security officials had credible grounds to suspect Indian government involvement in the assassination.
India vehemently rejected these allegations, deeming them “absurd and motivated.” In response to Canada’s decision, a Canadian diplomat was expelled by India in a tit-for-tat maneuver, further escalating tensions.
The resumption of visa services, particularly in the categories crucial for international interactions, is seen as a positive step toward mending diplomatic fences. Canada has welcomed this move, acknowledging it as a “good sign” and expressing the view that the suspension “never should have happened in the first place.”
As the diplomatic resolution unfolds, all eyes are on the virtual G20 summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead discussions. In a notable development, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed his participation, marking his inaugural virtual engagement with Modi amidst the recent strain in the relationship between the two countries.
